I was invited by Budjette Tan to join in his online comic's june 13th/friday the 13th gimmick. The web comic is called Trese... and he's asked a number of artists to draw the main character to celebrate this day which will be the only friday the 13th for the whole year.

Sikat ka na ejay!

Right now, there's this smile that I can't wipe off my face.

I think for the past 3 years I was really neck-deep in work. Putting up your own studio is a really lovely idea, but actually doing it demands a lot of commitment. There will be neverending adjustments, neverending problems, neverending sleepless nights. And the moment you actually get to sleep, guess what you'll be dreaming about? Work.

I didn't learn much business development in school, and my parents weren't entrepreneurs, so everything I do now, and everything I know are things I learn through chance, through self-discovery. And that means a lot of mistakes... I've had my fair share of wrong decisions. Wrong projects, bad timings, weird clients, burnout. There were actually times when I was at the point of considering folding up and getting myself a regular job.

But then you'll realize, the sweet is never as sweet without the sour.

Just last week, Pauline and I wrapped up our first tv commercial. It was produced by the studio, and it wasn't for a small-time client, and not from just any agency. We didn't have to bid, agency already had us in mind for the project. Both parties were happy with what we've done. I wouldn't consider doing tvcs as the end-all and be-all of my path, but leveling up to this field is a reaffirmation that I'm on the right track.

As the weekend hits, we'll be starting work on our second tvc. I am excited. I dig stories about epic, sweeping journeys, but not as much as I love learning about the first steps.

And in contrast, tonight, me and Pauline leave for Vigan. We'd like a few hours of good time before gearing up for war :)

Back in college, I was trying to start a personal comic book. Something that I could start from page 1 and finish all the way up to page 24. For various reasons, most especially the glorious art of procastination, hindi ko natapos kahit isa after several attempts. Thanks to my finding the back-up CD, here are two first pages from separate stories that I was trying to get going then :) I'll resort to uploading them here para naman ma-publish kahit papano... at kahit bitin!

It's just funny that I'm surfing the 'net last night and I find some stuff written by someone about themselves, making it look like they're all that.

"to pioneer and set the standard for the show’s fast-paced look" is not the same as "was provided with style guides & design/animation templates by an outsourced studio which we used for the show's mograph requirements".

If you're not gonna give credit to where it's due, then don't take all the credit for yourself.

Credit yourself accordingly, if you'd like to put it in a better way.

I'm not about to bother myself with past problems, but I'm just surprised with what I read...

Just let your current, independent work speak for you. That's a better measure of yourself.
